Subaru Impreza WRX STI 2007

Subaru Impreza WRX STI – 2007

The third-generation Subaru Impreza made its debut in May 2007, and just months later, in October, the highly anticipated WRX STI joined the lineup.

Departing from its predecessors, which were predominantly four-door sedans, the new Impreza was introduced as a five-door hatchback.

To enhance stability and handling, Subaru increased the wheelbase by 100mm while simultaneously reducing the overall length by 50mm through a shorter trunk.

With massive wheel arches to accommodate wider tires, the body of the 2007 WRX STI was 55mm wider than its predecessors.

This was the first STI to feature such aggressive bodywork. Built on a refined version of the classic STI chassis, the car was engineered for exceptional handling.

Unlike previous generations designed for track days, the new STI was tailored for everyday driving, similar to its rival, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. Powering this performance hatchback was the iconic EJ20 turbocharged engine, delivering an impressive 308 horsepower.

The EJ20 engine featured a dual Variable Valve Timing system, primarily for emissions compliance, rather than performance enhancement. The Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system, popular in Europe, offered two modes to allow for more spirited driving.

These features, combined with the signature Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system featuring a Driver-Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) and a precise six-speed manual transmission, solidified the 2007 WRX STI as a true performance icon.
