Mugen Motorsport

Tuning is MUGEN. The path of “MUGEN Motorsport” is a truly thorny one, starting from a simple garage and ending as one of the most popular and influential tuning studios for car modifications.

For over 40 years, MUGEN has been making its mark on the Honda car modification market. The very first and unforgettable model, which the current company head Hirotoshi Honda worked on as a student, was the Honda Civic 1200cc.

Since the modification of the Civic, and to this day, staying true to tradition, MUGEN has continuously improved and continues to improve the tuning and adjustment of engines exclusively for Honda models. Notably, there is no official affiliation between Honda and MUGEN.

MUGEN Motorsport actively participates in tuning and modifying cars for various racing series in Japan and beyond, including “Super GT,” “Japan Le Mans Challenge,” “Integra One-Make Race,” “Formula 3,” “Formula Nippon,” and “Super Taikyu Overseas Race.”

This diverse involvement has allowed them to hone their expertise across different racing disciplines, leading to the development of their highly regarded engines. Known for their power and reliability, these engines have consistently delivered competitive performance, solidifying MUGEN’s reputation in the motorsports world.

Their focus on precision engineering and innovative design has allowed them to create engines that not only win races but also push the boundaries of automotive technology. This dedication to performance has made MUGEN a respected name among racing teams and enthusiasts alike.

The ascent of MUGEN Motorsport is significantly marked by the creation of the Honda Ballade CR-X body kit and the “birth” of the “Prototype Mugen NSX.”

Currently, following the “2004 scandal regarding the company’s tax evasion,” MUGEN was acquired by M-TEC Co. Ltd. However, it’s important to note that this event did not affect the high quality of their modifications and high-tech engine tuning.

M-TEC Co. Ltd. has maintained the company’s original traditions, continuing to work on modifications for racing cars. Moreover, there’s a growing trend of interest in tuning Honda’s production cars. MUGEN Motorsport has begun creating and selling tuning packages and parts for the Honda production line.

The MF308 engine is the epitome of the achievements of MUGEN Motorsport’s engineers. This model was successfully used by racing teams in the F3000 series.

Cars equipped with this engine almost always won races. Later, the MF model (with 410 horsepower), modified for Formula 1, was successfully used by the McLaren Formula 1 team.

Combined with the exceptional performance of the team’s drivers, it produced truly outstanding results that modern Formula 1 car designers would envy.
