Audi R8 5.2 Quattro – 2009

Inspired by the Le Mans Quattro concept and drawing upon Audi’s Le Mans racing heritage, the R8 debuted in 2003, quickly becoming a benchmark in the supercar segment.

Its striking design and exceptional performance solidified Audi’s position as a major player in the high-performance automotive market.

The R8’s distinctive design, inspired by the Le Mans Quattro concept, set it apart from its competitors. Its low, wide stance and aggressive styling, combined with Audi’s signature single-frame grille, created a striking visual presence.

Iconic Design, Lightweight & Strong

The R8’s foundation was an aluminum Audi Space Frame (ASF), contributing to its exceptionally low weight of just 120 kg.

This lightweight construction, combined with meticulous hand assembly and rigorous quality control, ensured that the R8 offered both performance and durability.

Engineered for Performance

The R8’s mid-engine architecture houses a 4.2-liter V8 engine with direct injection, generating 420 horsepower.

Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system, featuring a viscous center differential and variable torque distribution, ensures optimal traction. An active rear spoiler, seamlessly deploying at elevated speeds, incorporates a mesh grid for enhanced cooling and aerodynamic efficiency.

Technological Advancements

The R8 was packed with cutting-edge technology, including Magnetic Ride suspension that allowed for adjustable damping and an R-tronic transmission with hydraulic actuation.

In 2009, Audi introduced the 5.2 FSI variant, featuring a high-revving 5.2-liter V10 engine producing 525 horsepower. This engine, combined with the R8’s advanced chassis, provided exhilarating performance and a truly visceral driving experience.
