2003 Xsara VTR Citroen

Citroen Xsara VTR – 2003

Introduced in 1997 to compete with popular European models like the VW Golf and Opel Astra, the Citroen Xsara offered a unique blend of style, comfort, and performance.

Available as a three-door hatchback, five-door hatchback, and estate, the Xsara quickly gained popularity in Europe and beyond.

Performance Variants: The VTR and VTS

The Xsara VTR was the sporty variant, featuring a range of petrol and diesel engines. While European models offered a broader engine lineup, Japanese-market Xsara VTRs were primarily equipped with 1.6-liter, 1.8-liter, and 2.0-liter petrol engines.

The 2.0-liter VTS variant, in particular, offered impressive performance with 165 horsepower and 193 Nm of torque, making it a direct competitor to the Peugeot 306 S16.

Rally-Bred Performance

The combination of a well-tuned suspension and powerful engines made them a favorite among driving enthusiasts. The Xsara’s success on the World Rally Championship (WRC) further enhanced its reputation as a performance-oriented hatchback.

The Xsara VTR, especially the high-performance VTS models, were renowned for their agile handling and sporty character.

A Facelift and Increased Power

In 2001, the Xsara received a facelift, bringing its styling more in line with other Citroen models. The 1.6-liter engine in the VTR was also upgraded, producing 180 horsepower and making it an even more potent hot hatch.
